How I Wish I Wrote and Published - How I Will Write and Publish
Originally, this post had much more context that I ended up choosing to post in a separate post, Door 1 vs. Door 2..
But for the sake of brevity.
TLDR;
- Consistent Posting.
- Well Cited (If Necessary).
- Audio Recorded for Accessibility.
- Graphic Design for Hero Image.
- Shared on Socials.
1.) Consistent Posting
Consistency not spam.
I might be a weekly round-up of posts to email to subscribers, but I play on sharing one featured post a week.
Hell, for all I know I only post once a week[1]
2.) Well Cited (If Necessary)
Sometimes, posts are just vibes, but other times, posts need accountability.
Tangent: A word I've always had an issue with is the word 'Just', okay give me a sec here to elaborate.
Firstly, it's a bad word, doesn't even sound nice to say.
Secondly, try saying 'Just'[2] aloud, see what I mean?
Thirdly, the word automagically presumes the person being told the information understands the context of what's being said.
Just for one person is the next persons reason to eventual failure of a task, all because a person couldn't be bothered to just explain, throughly, the process.
So, what does just have to do with 2.) Well Cited (If Necessary)?
Well, to keep myself accountable that I don't fall into the lazy, frankly unfair to readers, mindset of posting just vibe posts so that I can ignore this step of the process.
3.) Self-Recorded Audio for Accessibility
Similarly to 2., this step is to hold myself accountable in that I should read aloud anything I post[3].
Also, I've always admired a well written blog, post, article, what have you, that also had the writer, or a professional narrator, reading the piece aloud.
The intentional writing of 'Self-Recorded Audio' is to not fall into the AI trap of using readers to read them aloud.[4]
4.) Create Graphic Design for Hero Image
Similarly to 2., 3., and now this step, 'Create Graphic Design...' Is to hold myself accountable to produce an image, doesn't have to be a masterpiece, to be the hero image of the blog.
Not that I would ever fall into the generative-ai-prompt-up-an-image-for-me-so-i-can-embarrisingly-credit-an-generative-ai-companies-stolen-data-set-as-the-creator but more so that I don't fall into the stock-image rabbit-hole of using images from the web that don't have any personal input into.
5.) Shared on Socials
This is the hardest one. Sharing creativity online is...
Way too fucking v u l n e r a b l e.
I'll have to try and sort this out.
But this has to be part of the process, otherwise, for myself, it's not committing fully to this task I want to be consistent at.
If anyone who reads this sees me falling off on any of these steps, please call me out. It would be much appreciated.[5]
That would be 10Xing my previous output, Lord, help me. ↩︎
Ugh even typing it feels gross ↩︎
This does wonders in the editing phase of writing, as hearing it aloud and attempting to read what you have written aloud highlights issues therein ↩︎
I never would have either way, as I, and this is true, fucking hate generative AI. ↩︎
Truly. ↩︎
